Tracking NGLP’s Through Mwenge Catholic University-Tanzania
In the heart of Tanzania, Mwenge Catholic University (MWECAU) is quietly redefining leadership through its participation in the Next Generation Leadership Programme (NGLP), a transformative initiative aimed at nurturing leaders within the African Church. MWECAU, nestled in the vivid landscapes of Tanzania, serves as a fertile ground for the cultivation of future leaders who carry with them the values and skills instilled by NGLP.
Rev. Prof. Philbert Vumilia, the Vice-Chancellor of Mwenge Catholic University, emphasizes that NGLP is not just about enrolling in a program but rather about embodying the leadership values taught and applying them effectively. In an interview, he explained, “Enrolling in a specific program does not make you a leader. When you go out there, how do you bring those values you’ve learned? When the scholars go out into the world, they must stand out and carry the commitment of serving the people they are called to lead.”
The NGLP scholars at MWECAU are a testament to the program’s impact. Sister Beatrice Kimtui, Brother Greyson Msena, and Sister Novita B. Focasi, all dedicated scholars at MCU, have spoken glowingly of their experiences and the transformative lessons they have imbibed through NGLP.
Brother Greyson Msena shared his insights on the program, highlighting the focus on the Church, religious life, and communal living. He emphasized that the lessons learned at MCU can be effectively transferred to their respective communities. The program’s emphasis on building a strong foundation in faith and communal living prepares scholars to make a meaningful impact.
Sister Beatrice Kimtui, another scholar at MCU, noted significant personal growth during her time in the program. She pointed out that the program instils crucial skills such as time management, effective communication, and fostering positive environments for interaction. Additionally, Sister Novita B. Focasi commended the program’s meticulously structured courses. She attested to the program’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded leaders who can make a difference in their communities.
In further discussions with MCU scholars and faculty, it was evident that the NGLP program at MCU has a clear mission: to provide holistic education to religious priests, seminarians, and Christians, with an inclusive approach. The program not only imparts valuable lessons in humility but also equips participants with the skills necessary to effectively manage projects and initiatives to fruition.
The commitment of NGLP to continuous improvement is evident in its recent restructuring efforts aimed at ensuring the program’s scholars benefit to the fullest. The impact of this initiative is clear, with MCU scholars going on to make meaningful contributions within their communities and the broader Church.
As the Next Generation Leadership Programme continues to flourish at Mwenge Catholic University, it serves as a beacon of hope and transformation for leaders within the African Church, fostering a new generation of leaders who are not only well-prepared academically but also deeply grounded in the values of humility, service, and community.
